Here’s a brief look at the news and changes that came from Disney during July.
Magical Express Makeover
The makeover to the busses is already under way. The new design looks more like the Disney Cruise Line busses with the port-hole windows. The design will also feature the fab six.
New Pass for Florida Residents
The Florida Resident Theme Park Select Pass was launched as a new option for Sunshine State residents. The pass allows residents the option to select one park they would like access to 365 days a year while the others they will have access to 175 days out of the year following the blackout calendar. The pass is currently priced at $439 per person.
Christmas Season Plans Revealed
Hollywood Studios: Sunset Seasons Greetings will return and run from 11/8 thru 1/6. Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM! will continue with the addition of meeting Santa Claus at Once Upon a Time shop from 11/10-12/24. On 12/25 Santa Goofy will fill in for Santa while he’s out delivering presents. Alien Swirling Saucers will get a holiday soundtrack.
Magic Kingdom: Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party begins 11/8.
Epcot: International Festival of the Holidays begins 11/18. Holiday finale will be added to Reflections of Earth. The Candlelight Processional will start 11/22 thru 12/30.
Animal Kingdom: UP! A Great Bird Adventure will get the addition of Diwali, the holiday Festival of Lights in India beginning 11/8.
Disney Springs: Christmas Tree Trail in the Marketplace begins 11/8 and runs thru 1/5. Santa’s Chalet will also begin 11/8 but ends 12/31.
New Year’s Eve Events at Contemporary Open for Booking
Pixar Party: Runs New Year’s Eve on the 2nd floor of the Contemporary from 8 PM – 12:15 AM. This family event features different activities, games, music, dancing and food all inspired by Pixar movies like Toy Story, Finding Nemo, Up, Inside Out and The Incredibles. Viewing of MK’s fireworks included. $190 per person.
Disney Countdown to Midnight: Takes place in the Fantasia ballroom from 8 PM – 12:15 AM. For the adult crowd. Dressing up is encouraged, food, DJ, dancing, and champagne while viewing the MK fireworks from the porte cochere. $275 per person.
Ink and Paint Club: If you’re attending the Countdown to Midnight you can take advantage of this offering taking place adjacent to the Fantasia ballroom from 7 PM – 12:15 AM. The event will feature a Disney Animation inspired room, meet and greet with Mickey and Minnie, pianist, chef stations and reserved seating in the Countdown to Midnight Party. Cost is $450 per person including the Countdown to Midnight tickets.

Candlelight Processional Packages Open for Booking
Packages include a meal at a restaurant and a guaranteed seat for one of the performances which are held at 5 PM, 6:45 PM and 8:15 PM. Depending on the restaurant you pair your experience with the price ranges from $52-$80 for adults and $19-$36 for children.

There was also an announcement that the restaurant will be closed for 4 days in August from 8/20-8/24 for some refurbishments.
New Dining Option for Pizzafari in Animal Kingdom
Beginning 7/31 Pizzafari will offer family-style dining for dinner from 5-8 PM. The meal will include two appetizers, three entrees including pasta, chicken and pizza and a dessert all served family-style at your table. The cost is $19.99 for 10 and over and $11.99 for ages 3-9. This will count as one Quick Service credit if you’re using the dining plan. Reservations are recommended. The regular operation and menu will continue throughout the day if you prefer that.
Rivers of Light Dessert Party Taking Reservations
The dessert party will begin 60 minutes prior to the show at the Rivers of Light Asia Viewing Area Terrace across from Expedition Everest. Like other dessert parties there will be a buffet of desserts to choose from and beverages. Before show time you’ll be escorted to the VIP seating area to view Rivers of Light. The parties begin 8/6. The cost is $79 per adult and $47 per child.
Refurb for Liberty Square Riverboat Pushed Out
The attraction was supposed to open back up on 7/19 but the opening date has been pushed to sometime in the fall. Specific date to follow.
Disney PhotoPass Day Announced
PhotoPass Day will take place on 8/19. The day includes special character meet and greets at all the parks as well as magic shots.
V.I.Passholder Nights Introduced
Gold, Platinum, Platinum Plus and Premier Passholders will get to experience special after hour events at both Epcot and Magic Kingdom. Advanced registration is required and can be done here: https://event-registration.disneyparks.disney.go.com/disneyworld.The dates are 8/5 at MK from 10 PM – 12 AM, 9/6 at Epcot from 9 PM – 11 PM and 10/25 at Epcot from 9 PM – 11 PM.
Splash Mountain Gets a Sponsor
Ziploc will become the ride’s sponsor as part of a long-term deal. Guests will be able to get Ziploc bags at the attraction to keep possessions dry. Ziploc also sponsors Epcot’s Kidcot Fun Stops.
Guy Fieri Opening New Restaurant in Disney Springs
The restaurant will be called “Chicken Guy!” and will be located on the side of Planet Hollywood Observatory. The menu features fried or grilled chicken with a ton of sauces to choose from. The restaurant is expected to open by the end of this summer.
Disney Announces Plan to Cut-Down on Plastic
Disney plans to implement their plastic limitations beginning mid-2019. This includes eliminating single use plastic straws, plastic stirrers, polystyrene cups, and the tiny bottles of shampoo, etc. in guest rooms. All guest rooms will now have a refillable pump station with these amenities located in the shower. They also plan to reduce plastic shopping bags by offering reusable bags at a lower price.
Magic of Disney Store Closes at MCO
Magic of Disney was one of two stores at Orlando International Airport featuring Disney merch. It’s closing as the airport plans to expand its security check point into the area. A new Magic of Disney will open across from the old one however in spring of 2019.
Creating Tradition Exhibit Opens in Epcot.
The full title of the new exhibit is “Creating Tradition: Innovation and Change in American Indian Art” and it’s located in the American Heritage Gallery inside the American Adventure Pavilion.
